Identifying and treating the underlying root cause or causes, as Functional Medicine does, has a much better chance to successfully resolve a patient’s health challenge. Using scientific principles, advanced diagnostic testing, and treatments other than drugs or surgery, Functional Medicine restores balance in the body’s primary physiological processes. The end goal is the patient’s lifelong optimal health.

I was raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a major in biomedical sciences and a minor in chemistry. Following undergrad I moved to the St. Louis area to attend Logan College of Chiropractic where I was able to pursue advanced studies in sports and injury rehabilitation and graduated with a masters in sports science & rehabilitation as well as a doctorate of chiropractic. I have one fur-baby. She’s a Lab/American Bulldog (Bullador) mix named Xena that has become our unofficial office mascot!

Staying active, healthy, and fit is an important part of my daily routine as I try to emulate the behaviors I like to see in my patients that may have pain or injuries holding them back. Practice what you preach. Out of the office you can usually find me golfing, working out, playing volleyball, tennis, biking, rock-climbing, enjoying local live music, or pretty much anything else active—wanna do stuff? Let’s do it. I try and retreat out of town to our family cabin (it’s a trailer, a really sweet trailer) at Prairie Du Chien on the Mississippi—where we can be found fishing, boating, or playing endless rounds of cards (euchre, 500, cribbage, the list goes on).

After graduation I practiced in the St. Louis metro area at Performance Health Care and worked with a ton of area baseball/softball players, as well as athletes from the University of Missouri, Missouri Baptist University, Fontbonne University and Jefferson College. I also completed a clinical internship through the St. Louis Veterans Affairs Hospital working in an interdisciplinary team of primary care providers (MD’s, RN’s, PT’s, psychologists) to better serve our country’s veterans.

After St. Louis, I spent a year in Fargo, ND teaching for the North Dakota State College of Science. I moved back to Cedar Rapids in 2011, but continue to teach at NDSCS, as well as Hawkeye Community College, Iowa Central Community College, and Marshalltown Community College.

I am an active member at Metro North Rotary and currently serve on the MNR board of directors. I am also a past graduate of the Leadership for Five Seasons program (class of 2014—best class ever!) and continue to stay involved with LFS as a committee member. I try and get out to support local area events as often as I am able to.

I have certifications in almost more things than I can count/recall. I typically focus my post-grad education on sports injuries and soft tissue injury treatment and management; Active Release Techniques (A.R.T.) and Trigger Point Dry Needling have been great for me both personally and professionally in getting through injuries quickly and getting athletes back on the field. I also spend a solid amount of time focusing on rehab—principles of movement—how to get areas of the body moving better, to reduce stress on overused/injured areas.

For years through high-school, college, and even through and after chiropractic school I’ve struggled with low back pain, which has eventually progressed to full blown sciatica down my right leg as I’ve gotten older. Due to my own struggles with this condition, and the so-so results I was getting with traditional treatment models, I spent time focusing on low back/disc injury rehab & management and it has made a world of difference in my own life and how I’m able to better serve patients in getting them out of pain, often when all other “traditional” methods have failed them.

I tend to treat most patients and injuries like “athletes,” because, to be honest, most of us are “athletes” whether we are weekend warriors that like to (run, bike, swim, lift, play pickleball, chase after your kids in soccer, etc) or elite level athletes playing professional or collegiate sports, or competing nationally in triathlons and competitive sports. Life doesn’t care if you consider yourself an athlete. We all need basic athletic movements to age successfully (you squat/lunge/deadlift every time you sit down and stand up, pick up your golf ball/kids, or do household chores). The fundamentals of rehab for injuries applies universally. We can manipulate the tissues to reduce pain, but we have to impose a specific demand on injured tissues to allow them to adapt, heal and remodel stronger to prevent future injuries. To get better, faster, most patients need to think, “What am I doing wrong to cause the injury,” and “What should I do right/better to help it heal faster or prevent it from coming back.” By focusing on moving better and moving often, we can get you back on the field faster and lessen the likelihood of reinjury. Knowledge is power and teaching people how to keep themselves healthy will reduce the number of times we need to see them at Back In Line. That is our ultimate goal.

I was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa, attended the University of Iowa, and later graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. I married my high school sweetheart in 2007 and moved to Hiawatha/Cedar Rapids in 2009. I have two wonderful children—a daughter, Porter (2012), and a son Cooper (2015).

I enjoy vacations, especially to warm places with mountain views, or remote cabins with fireplaces and snowfalls, biking, books, and planning adventures with the kids.

The Back In Line Family Chiropractic & Wellness home and family is a huge part of my life. I love who I work with and I love the work family we have created. The heart and soul of our office is to offer the best services to the patient and meet their individual needs. The doctors I work with have made a strong commitment to their specialties and areas of focus.

We have many patients with many different conditions, it makes sense to have a one-stop shop. I love the focus on the patient and the patients’ needs—a truly patient-centered focus. We feel very deeply that when we focus on highly specific techniques and training, the patient gets better, faster. The front desk team understands that making every aspect of patient care easy and enjoyable is a crucial part of a healthcare office. Health insurance can be complex, and in the world of high deductibles or no coverage, honoring your healthcare dollars is a crucial part of the patient experience. I value the relationship we have with each other, and our patients.

At the beginning of 2022 I elected to stop working under the constraints of third party insurance companies and work directly for my patients. In other terms, I am an out-of-network provider, meaning I don’t have to play by the rules insurance companies deem necessary to treat and meet “medical necessity” in caring for patients. Don’t get me wrong, I work alongside three other providers that remain in-network for many companies, however, much of my training doesn’t fit within the traditional standard-of-care. I get to think and work outside of the box. I get to practice a truly progressive approach to healthcare in foundational lab testing, functional lab assessments, and treat patients that the traditional model of care happens to miss, or to help patients find out why they are having issues with fertility, hormone dysregulation, subclinical hypo-thyroid, GI disturbances, and more. I can still treat patients that have all types of insurance, however, patients who elect to see me can get reimbursed by their out-of-network benefits (if they have them, or elect to use their FSA or HSA, or pay cash or check for care. I no longer work for insurance companies but work for the patients first.

My primary areas of focus are headaches, acupuncture, and functional medicine.

My favorite patient types are: Newbies to Chiropractic—those who are not sure where to start or what they need Maintenance & Wellness Care Headaches and Chronic Migraine patients Functional Medicine and Wellness-based patients Currently, I am working on programming to discuss birth control options and hormone regulation in teens, and young women. Oftentimes we are not told of alternatives to prescription hormone therapies or of the informed consent regarding the biochemistry of birth controls and what it does to our brains and our bodies.

Hello! I’m Dr. Missy and I was born and raised in the small town of Manchester, Iowa. I graduated from West Delaware High School and I later attended Wartburg College—graduating with my bachelor’s degree in Biology. In 2018 I earned my Doctorate of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College, “The Fountainhead” of chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Hiawatha is a big step up from a small town, but I am so excited to be part of the Back In Line team and help serve the corridor area!

Personally, I enjoy all things outdoors. Most of the winter months you can find me on my snowmobile riding throughout Iowa, Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There is nothing quite like that fresh powder! In the warmer months I like to spend my time kayaking, fishing, hunting, playing volleyball, golfing, hiking, spending time on the water, or going to a country concert. I’m usually down to clown if it involves being active or exploring something new. My most recent adventure is my road bike named “Blue.” We’ve been hitting up the local bike trails and taking full advantage of what Linn County has to offer. With all that being said, I do have to remind myself to take a step back to honor time alone. We have to also remember to enjoy the little things in life.

I’ve had some pretty awesome experiences during my time as a chiropractor. I’ve treated and adjusted the USA Track and Field athletes at Drake Stadium, the runners competing in Bix 7, and the Hero Hustle Triathlon athletes. I was also the trainer for the WDHS volleyball team for their 2019 season as they made it all the way to state. Know of any cool events? Let’s chat!

I believe my active lifestyle has contributed to my philosophy that there is so much more to chiropractic beyond the “adjustment.” I feel sports rehab plays a crucial role in healing, recovery, and prevention. I’ve loved expanding my knowledge and skills beyond chiropractic through events and additional education/training. It has allowed me to add tools to my “toolbox” which help me treat patients within the office. I focus on quality chiropractic care through full spinal adjustments and provide patients of all ages with a holistic approach to healthcare with wellness, exercise, and nutritional needs. Additionally, I incorporate movement-based evaluations, Palmer Package adjustments, myofascial release, extremity treatments, rehabilitation, floss banding, kinesiology taping, cupping. I value providing patients with the most up-to-date and effective research and care. My passion is helping others achieve optimal health and wellness, especially young athletes. Your body has an incredible potential to heal itself. The most amazing part is what I get to witness every day!

I value being active within the community and giving back where and when I can. In the past, I have been a member of many organizations including the Iowa Chiropractic Society, the International Chiropractors Association, the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, and was even a BirthFit Professional. All of these organizations have exposed me to different avenues within the chiropractic profession. I’ve gotten to meet many people along the way, some of whom I get to call lifelong friends and colleagues. These connections are why I value friendships so deeply. I love connecting with people and getting to know what makes them who they are. As Hunan beings, we are, after all, physically wired for human connection. Knowing your time with me in the office is genuine and sincere is of utmost importance.

Being part of Back In Line Family Chiropractic & Wellness, was a no-brainer. There is something exciting and comforting being around like-minded people. The kind who you can say, “these are my peeps.” I thoroughly enjoy going to work each day knowing that I am walking into a welcoming, caring, healing, and fun environment. I respect and appreciate that everyone is allowed to be their authentic self. Each of the docs bring something different to the table. Collectively, we are a cohesive unit, well-equipped and adaptive to our patient’s needs. This is why we hold ourselves to a higher standard. At Back in Line Family Chiropractic & Wellness, we strive to be the best at what we do! Our front desk staff are also top notch. They value the care you receive and the relationships they create with you just as much as we do! They are always going above and beyond to make sure your time with us is valued. Our team is passionate about what we do and we love “Making Healthy Contagious!”

Hi, I am Dr. Lucy Lillie! I was born and raised in Walker, Iowa and later attended University of Dubuque where I was a member of the Cross Country and Track team while I obtained my Bachelor’s of Science degree. In 2024 I earned my Doctorate of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic.

In my down time you can find me spending time with my family, Mitchell and Theadora. I enjoy hiking the different trails Iowa has to offer and working out at the gym. Long story short, any chance I can be out and enjoy the sunshine that is where you will find me.

As a mother, I have come to understand firsthand how the importance of supporting our families starts with supporting our nervous systems and bodies. Transitioning into motherhood is not always the easiest thing but should be a beautiful and liberating experience. Supporting a mom and helping her transition not only loves moms well but can help set the tone of the entire home. Moms are multipliers, what gets poured into a mother gets poured out from her into her spouse, children, and community. Why not pour in love, support, and Nervous System regulation!?

Chiropractic has been the foundation of my ability to navigate caring for the little ones in my life, from dealing with oral tethers in my own kiddos to the honor of adjusting my newborn nephew.

The experience of dealing with tension that was a result of oral ties in my own daughter, and supporting her through the process, helped me find my passion within Chiropractic. I am excited to expand and grow in these areas.

Though I have finished with my formal education from Palmer College of Chiropractic the learning does not end there. Over the next year I am continuing to build upon a tonal approach to Chiropractic. This allows the body to bring awareness to certain areas of our bodies to aid in relieving tension and receiving the adjustment. I’ll be learning a few different ways to address the Nervous System and spine including: Network Spinal, Webster’s Technique, Craniosacral Technique, and from the Pediatric Experience Chiropractors!

I am honored to be a part of the Back In Line Family allowing me to work alongside some incredible professionals already serving the community well. I look forward to serving and learning with you all.
